Air ducts in the home act as a respiratory system by circulating heat and cool air throughout, conserving energy while making your HVAC systems work more efficiently. But, over time, dust, mold, and other things accumulate in their systems that need to be cleaned regularly to ensure they stay healthy. But, the question that is obvious to cross the mind is how often you should clean your air ducts.

The direct answer to this question is every 3 to 5 years, but there are more signs that signify immediate air duct cleaning and are shared below:

    Dust

You are doing everything to clean the dust around your home precisely the air vents, but if it doesn’t simply seem to get rid of it, it can be a strong sign that the air ducts need immediate cleaning. If not done early, it can cause respiratory issues by directly fuelling the lungs with the dust.

    Mold

Never ignore the sign of mold, and don’t take time getting it cleaned. If your home has an active air duct system, cleaning the mold along with the air duct becomes more important. As the main job of the air duct is to regulate the flow of cool and hot air throughout the home, high humidity and condensation can easily be built up in the system, making it an ideal breeding spot for mold.

    Asthma and Allergies

If someone in your home is suffering from asthma, allergies, or any sort of respiratory issues, then cleaning air ducts early from the recommended period of 3 to 5 years is important. As air ducts are prone to accumulating dust and pollen easily, those suffering from allergies can find it harder to breathe in the same environment. In such cases, get the air ducts cleaned every 2 years.

    High Bills

One of the main jobs of the air ducts is to conserve energy, and if it is doing just the opposite, then it is a sign that your air ducts need cleaning. The high energy bills indicate that your air ducts is dealing with a problem and generating more energy to regulate the air, then it requires immediate cleaning.

Cleaning the air duct is not an exhausting task if you are hiring a professional for the service, which you should. If your air duct is not showing any sign discussed above, then get it cleaned as per the standard guideline of 3 to 5 years.
